One of our most effective lessons this year was inspired by the book Duck for President.  We had printed ballots from Mailbox Magazine with the names Duck, Pig, Cow, and Sheep.  We made the "posters." Each teacher took on one of the candidate's roles using these dollar store puppets.  Duck told the kids that if he won, they would get ten extra minutes of recess that day.  The other candidates said things like no more snack time.  We held an election with each child checking one box and putting their ballot in the ballot box.  We almost had an upset since the teacher who played Pig snorted during her speech.   Almost half of the votes went to Pig!
